Lots of people dream about working in tech because it sounds fun and cool. You might help build apps, create games, or work with smart robots. But getting your very first tech job is actually much harder than you might think.
Many people believe that if they learn to code or take some classes, they’ll get a job easily. But the truth is, many companies want people who already have some work experience. This makes it really tough for beginners.
Take for example in the US alone, where there are over 400,000 open tech jobs right now. But even with all these jobs, new workers find it hard to get hired because there are so many people applying. In fact, some jobs can get hundreds of applications for just one spot!
Another reason it’s hard is because tech jobs need more than just coding skills. You also have to know how to work in a team, talk to other people clearly, and think of creative ways to solve problems.
Even though it’s tough, you shouldn’t give up! People who keep learning, practise a lot, and show their work in a portfolio have a much better chance. It also helps to work on small projects with friends or join coding clubs to get real experience.
